About The Position

Under general supervision, operates a motor vehicle and other equipment which may include an automated side-load refuse collection vehicle, an automated front-load refuse collection vehicle, a roll off refuse collection vehicle, a backhoe, an articulated loader, and a stationary boom crane to support solid waste activities at the City's transfer station.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Possess, at minimum, a valid Class B Arizona Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or greater in good standing and be issued by the Arizona Motor Vehicle Division of Arizona Department of Transportation prior to start date of employment.
  • A clean driving record is required.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds and 75 pounds with assistance
  • Must be able to see clearly, with correction if necessary, during both day and evening hours and in potentially adverse weather conditions and sufficient to effectively and safely operate required vehicles; read street/road signs, maps, and handwritten/typewritten material and perform required duties
  • Sufficient to clearly, concisely and effectively communicate (reading, writing, speaking) in person and over the telephone and radio in English

Nice To Haves

  • Prior heavy or motorized equipment operator experience is preferred.
  • Experience driving side-load and front-load refuse collection equipment preferred
  • bilingual skills beneficial

Responsibilities

  • Operates a motor vehicle and other equipment which may include an automated side-load refuse collection vehicle, an automated front-load refuse collection vehicle, a roll-off refuse collection vehicle, a backhoe, an articulated loader, and a stationary boom crane
  • Perform routine maintenance and repair for vehicles and equipment used during the course of business
  • Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip DOT inspection check for assigned vehicles and equipment
  • Perform basic maintenance on equipment including greasing key components, washing and cleaning interior and exterior of vehicles, and cleaning air filter and radiator
  • Perform maintenance of refuse collection containers on assigned routes
  • Perform daily/weekly maintenance of the Transfer Station and yard in conformance with ADEQ and EPA regulations
  • Assist in the setup, preparation, and cleanup of special events.
  • Perform other tasks as needed
