About The Position

The purpose of this position is to operate an assigned boom truck. Job duties consist of related equipment operation duties. Successful performance results in the successful collection of debris. FLSA status is Non-Exempt.

Requirements

  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
  • One (1) year of experience in the operation of trucks and heavy equipment.
  • Must provide proof of your legal right to work in the United States.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds.
  • Willing to work overtime.
  • Willing to cooperate with the workload of the department.
  • Willing to comply with City of Prattville rules and regulations.
  • Must submit to drug screenings for this safety sensitive position.
  • Must accomplish the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations, in a timely manner.
  • Ability to deal with and relate to people beyond giving and receiving instructions.
  • Ability to talk, express, or exchange ideas by means of spoken words and/or hear and perceive the nature of sounds by ear.
  • Ability to adapt to and perform under moderate stress.
  • Regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Knowledge of department and city policies and procedures, and relevant federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge of work safety principles.
  • Knowledge of the techniques, equipment, and supplies used in the course of work.
  • Knowledge of the geography of the city, including street names and locations.
  • Knowledge of traffic safety.

Nice To Haves

  • A valid Alabama Class "B" CDL preferred.
  • One (1) year of experience in performing heavy manual labor preferred.
  • High School Diploma/GED (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Operates a boom truck to load trees, limbs, brush, and debris.
  • Operates a compactor to compact trash.
  • Surveys work sites for potential hazards.
  • Assists in maintaining facilities and grounds.
  • Assists with recycling center operations as needed.
  • Performs pre- and post-trip equipment inspections.
  • Cleans equipment interior and exterior.
  • Performs minor maintenance and repair duties.
  • Reports major repair needs to supervisor.
  • Receives daily work assignments and coordinates the work of assigned personnel.
  • Maintains required records.
  • Assists with other department tasks.
  • Performs other duties as needed or assigned.
