About The Position

Under immediate supervision, operates light to heavy equipment used to excavate, load, transfer, or move brush, bulky, and residential and municipal waste or other material. Performs related duties as required. Depending on the assignment, may provide emergency response assistance to city issues after hours.

Requirements

  • Three years of experience driving any vehicle which requires a Class A or B CDL (Commercial Drivers License)
  • Must have completed at least the eighth grade.
  • Employment is conditional upon successful completion of a criminal background check.
  • Must pass a DOT-regulated drug/alcohol test.
  • Must successfully complete the FMCSA Clearinghouse background check process.
  • Knowledge of principles, practices, and methods of residential refuse collection and disposal.
  • Knowledge of maximum load capacity of collection vehicle.
  • Ability to understand and perform work according to City of Farmers Branch safety practices.
  • Ability to read maps and other written documents.
  • Knowledge of and ability to operate all residential and commercial collection vehicles including front loader, knuckle boom, and roll on/roll off trucks.
  • Knowledge of operation, use, and general maintenance of collection vehicles and equipment.
  • Ability to verbally communicate to supervisors and peers.
  • Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Ability to follow instructions of supervisor.
  • Ability to perform medium to heavy physical labor.
  • Knowledge of safety and traffic laws; hazardous and recyclable materials.
  • Skill required in properly using, operating, and caring for tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Valid class "B" commercial driver's license with good driving record and ability to maintain while employed, required.

  • Subject to "stand-by" duty.

Responsibilities

  • Operates medium to heavy equipment used to excavate, load, transfer, or move brush, bulky, and residential and municipal waste or other material.
  • Dumps waste at City Landfill when truck is full.
  • May perform special call-in collections of residential waste.
  • Services and inspects collection equipment to ensure they are properly equipped and serviced for routes, and ensure equipment is kept clean.
  • Reports any damage to collection vehicles and equipment, job-related accidents, and route or road designs or situations that affect the safe operation of the collection vehicles to the immediate supervisor.
  • Performs overtime and all other duties as necessary or required in order to complete assignment.
  • Completes daily maintenance report on equipment.
  • Consults with immediate supervisor for any route changes or hazardous driving conditions.
  • Responsible for regular attendance and arriving to work on time.

Benefits

  • Target Hiring Range: $23.65- $26.28
