About The Position

The fundamental reason this job exists is to operate moderate to heavy equipment in the completion of projects for various City of Montgomery departments. The work responsibilities include operating maintenance equipment, operating heavy equipment, operating hauling equipment, maintaining equipment, tools, and work area, and performing miscellaneous tasks. Equipment Operators typically use two or more types of the following equipment: bulldozers, scrapers, front-end loaders, wheel rollers, dump trucks, hauling equipment, and/or trash compactors. The majority of Equipment Operators’ time is spent utilizing equipment that requires a CDL, and many Equipment Operator IIs receive training on various pieces of heavy equipment for future advancement to the Heavy Equipment Operator classification. Equipment Operators are supervised by various classifications, dependent upon the incumbents’ assigned locations.

Requirements

Six (6) months of experience in the operation of moderate-sized equipment such as trucks, small dump trucks and/or tractors.
Must have a current CDL.
Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.
Willing to work weekends, holidays and evenings as needed by the department.
