About The Position

The Equipment Operator II is a position that fulfills the transit services for campus either through completing routine routes, or contracts for special transportation needs. This position will navigate a variety of routine and contracted routes on a time schedule with passenger safety, road and traffic conditions, as well as vehicle operational capacity, under consideration. Once certified to operate specific vehicles, the individual in this position will ensure prompt transit for campus affiliates and guests in consideration of their needs, vehicle operational capacity and road conditions.

Requirements

  • Two years of experience operating cargo vans, golf carts, buses, or similar equipment
  • Must have a valid Colorado Driver’s License
  • Must be willing and able to pass a criminal background check, motor vehicle check and drug test
  • Subject to pre-employment, post-accident, incident, or reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol testing per UCD Facilities Operations Department Policies
  • Must be willing and able to safely operate University vehicles
  • Must be willing and able to walk, stand, use manual dexterity, and eye/hand coordination constantly
  • Must be willing and able to sit, climb, crawl, kneel, bend, reach, push, and pull frequently
  • Must be willing and able to work outside, exposed to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions caused by the weather, and in high, exposed places
  • Must be willing and able to work with others and effectively communicate verbally and in writing

Nice To Haves

  • Three or more years of experience operating cargo vans, golf carts, buses, or similar equipment to transport people
  • CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) with a Passenger Endorsement
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
  • Attention to detail

Responsibilities

  • Operate vans, single‑axle buses, golf carts, and similar vehicles in accordance with safety regulations, traffic laws, and organizational policies.
  • Monitor the mechanical condition and cleanliness of the equipment, inspecting and maintaining fluid and air pressure levels, and keeping associated records and reports.
  • Complete additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned.
