About The Position

Maintains campus grounds to include, snow and ice management, lawn maintenance, landscaping, leaf collection, excavation, tree-work, etc. Reports to Groundskeeping Supervisor or other designated supervisor.

Requirements

A minimum of six months experience operating motorized equipment.
Must possess valid Ohio driver's license with safe driving record or Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with proper endorsements and safe driving record, if assigned to operate vehicles regulated by Section 4506.01 of Ohio Revised Code or obtain as soon as possible with extension up to 6 months from date of hire.
Individuals will be subject to controlled substance/alcohol testing in positions where such is required by federal regulations.

Landscaping
Operating and maintaining various types of grounds maintenance equipment (e.g., mower, tractor, chain saw, sod cutter, rotary tiller, snow thrower, dump truck, refuse truck, street sweeper, tracked skid steer, front end loader, bucket truck, hydroseeder etc.)
Utilizing mobile and stationary computer devices for data input (e.g., iPad, iPod, laptop, desktop)
Use of hand and power tools
Demonstrate physical dexterity and lift 100 pounds
Apply safety practices
Read (e.g., work orders, service and operation manuals, blueprints), write (e.g., repair requests), and accurately follow oral and written instructions
Perform basic mathematics (e.g., add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions and decimals, and to calculate area and volume, and percentages, calculate and estimate materials )
Perform maintenance within the scope of operators/owners manual
Must pass a security check.

Responsibilities

Operates equipment such as zero turn mower, compact tractors, UTVs, full size tractors, dump trucks, snow plows, leaf collector, front-end loaders, hydro-seeder, refuse trucks, bucket truck, street sweeper, compact tracked/skid steer loader, and weed sprayers.
Performs snow and ice management to include, spreading salt or sand, plowing snow, pre-treating hardscape.
Maintains campus lawns to include, mowing and repairing grass (hydro-seeding), and slope mowing.
Creates or reduces landscape beds, apply chemicals, hardscape repair and installation.
Collects and blows leaves.
Assists in excavation work to include, shoring, labor, measuring/spotting, and utility location.
Plants, trims, and removes trees.
Cleans and repairs streets, cleans catch basins and exterior drains.
Performs general labor and maintenance functions; loads and unloads freight; rigging; arranges stock in warehouse; repairs guardrails; moves equipment. May drive a truck with tow trailer to haul equipment and supplies to pick up and deliver materials, equipment, and personnel.
Makes minor repairs and adjustments to equipment; checks and services equipment; greases and oils machinery; checks tires and lights.
Performs traffic control for roadway, utility and tree work zones.
Assists skilled tradespersons as necessary.
May train and direct student employees or employees in a lower pay grade; may participate in training new employees.
Performs departmental related duties as required.
