About The Position

The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DOTI) is seeking an Equipment Operator I to join the Street Sweeping team. This role contributes to the maintenance and improvement of Denver's streets, alleys, and transportation network. The Street Maintenance division is responsible for keeping Denver’s streets and alleys safe, clean, and reliable year-round, including pothole repair, milling, paving, patching, alley maintenance, and citywide street sweeping. This position also participates in snow removal duties.

Requirements

• Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate
• Two (2) years of general labor experience which must include six (6) months of experience operating light to medium sized equipment.
• Requires a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL "B") with appropriate endorsements at the time of application.
• At the time of application, candidates are required to hold a valid CDL clear of any restrictions or under prohibited status in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Clearinghouse.
• Applicants for commercial driving positions must demonstrate proficiency in the English language. Commercial drivers must be able to do the following in English: Converse with the general public, Understand highway traffic signs and signals, Respond to official inquiries, Make entries on reports and records.

• Previous experience with street maintenance, and other labor-related tasks
• Experience working in various weather conditions (snow, rain, heat, etc.) and environments (dust, fumes, etc.)

Responsibilities

• Sweeper operations, route sweeping completions, and other sweeping operations as assigned
• Inspects vehicle for loose parts, damaged or worn tires, proper air pressure in tires, and other items affecting its safe operation and completes a pre/post trip inspection as defined by federal guidelines.
• Provide guidance and direction to Utility Worker I and II teammates.
• Perform semi-skilled and light to heavy physical labor on a variety of construction, maintenance, and repair projects.
• Operate light to medium sized equipment for maintenance and minor construction projects
• Place and remove barricades, cones, and other traffic control and safety devices in and around work areas for construction and maintenance projects in accordance with traffic regulation requirement
• Participates in snow removal duties.
• Perform other related duties as assigned
