About The Position

The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DOTI) is responsible for enhancing the quality of life in Denver by delivering public infrastructure and services. DOTI is committed to equity and focuses on areas of greatest need. The Street Maintenance division handles tasks such as pothole filling, street repaving, street sweeping, and snow removal. This division also manages the city's asphalt plant. As an Equipment Operator I, you will be part of a Paving, Milling, or Asphalt team, performing semi-skilled and physical labor on construction, maintenance, and repair projects. You will operate various equipment, place traffic control devices, and perform other related duties, including snow removal.

Requirements

  • Must hold a valid CDL clear of any restrictions or under prohibited status in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Clearinghouse at the time of application.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in the English language, including the ability to converse with the public, understand traffic signs and signals, respond to inquiries, and make entries on reports and records.
  • Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate
  • Two (2) years of general labor experience
  • Six (6) months of experience operating light to medium sized equipment.
  • Requires a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL "B") with appropriate endorsements at the time of application.
  • Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience with street maintenance, and other labor or construction-related tasks
  • Desire to work outside in various weather conditions (snow, rain, heat, ect) and environments (dust, fumes, etc.)
  • Knowledge of city of Denver streets/alleys and use of maps
  • Desire to promote to other positions within the department

Responsibilities

  • Be part of a Paving, Milling, or Asphalt team
  • Perform semi-skilled and light to heavy physical labor on a variety of construction, maintenance, and repair projects.
  • Operate weed wackers, snow blowers, pull weeds, rake and shovel asphalt, and run the wing on a paver.
  • Operate light to medium sized equipment for maintenance and minor construction projects
  • Place and remove barricades, cones, and other traffic control and safety devices in and around work areas for construction and maintenance projects in accordance with traffic regulation requirement
  • Perform other related duties as assigned including snow removal duties
