About The Position

This is an entry-level position in the Equipment Operator class series. Employees in this class typically work under close supervision, performing a variety of repetitive or closely related duties according to established procedures. This role is distinguished from higher-level classes by its responsibility for operating a limited range of light and moderate equipment and vehicles. The primary functions include driving trucks and light equipment for the collection and transportation of solid waste, heavy trash, and recyclables.

Requirements

• Some experience in the operation of light construction equipment and vehicles.
• Knowledge of solid waste and trash collection tools and equipment.
• Knowledge of methods employed in basic laboring and maintenance work.
• Knowledge of safety precautions used in refuse collection work.
• Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
• Ability to perform heavy physical labor.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Possession of a valid Texas Driver’s License.
• Possession of a valid Texas Class B Commercial Driver's License.

Nice To Haves

• A High School Diploma or GED is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Drive and operate light to moderate solid waste equipment, including trash trucks and rear-loading garbage trucks, on routine assignments or for training.
• Participate in working with a small solid waste crew to complete work orders.
• Perform tasks related to recycling and composting.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
