About The Position

The City of Staunton’s Park Maintenance Department is seeking an Equipment Operator I to join its team. Successful candidate performs routine semi-skilled work in a variety of maintenance assignments operating motorized equipment in support of the Parks & Recreation Department. Responds to unscheduled emergency work such as storms, ice and snow emergencies.

Requirements

General knowledge of the use of common lawn tools.
Ability to operate light and medium lawn equipment.
Ability to understand and follow oral instructions.
Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods.
Ability to work without direct supervision.
Ability to follow safety policies and procedures.
Possession of valid driver’s license with good driving record.
Ability to follow instructions.
Ability to problem solve.
Ability to work and think both independently and effectively in a team environment.
Must work in adverse weather conditions.

Nice To Haves

Must possess or obtain a CDL with passenger endorsement within a year of employment.
Must possess or obtain a Registered Tech Spray endorsement within a year of employment.

Responsibilities

Operates motorized equipment in support of the Parks & Recreation Department.
Responds to unscheduled emergency work such as storms, ice and snow emergencies.
May be on call on a rotational basis for emergency work.
