About The Position
Under immediate supervision, performs responsible semi-skilled work in the operation of motorized equipment; does related work as required.
Requirements
- Completion of the eleventh grade
- Considerable experience in operation of heavy equipment
- General knowledge of the principles and practices of operation and servicing heavy construction equipment
- Thorough knowledge of the traffic laws and regulations governing equipment operation
- Thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards involved and the safety precautions necessary to the proper operation of varied construction and maintenance equipment
- Skill and care in the operation of several types of trucks and specialized maintenance and construction equipment
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions
- Mechanical aptitude
- Ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment
- Possession of a valid North Carolina Unrestricted Commercial Class A Driver's License
Responsibilities
- Operates bulldozer
- Operates heavy front-end loader
- Operates self-loading pan
- Operates a trackhoe
- Operates large motor grader in leveling ground surfaces, street and construction repair
- Operates grade-all
- Operates snowplow
- Services and makes minor repairs and adjustments on equipment when not operating heavy equipment
- Operates lighter equipment or trains other operators
- May supervise workers and operators assisting in the work
