Summary: The Equipment Operator – Classification II is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of medium to heavy construction equipment in support of site development, utility installation, grading, paving, excavation, and related construction activities.

Requirements

  • Ability to obtain a DC operator’s license,
  • Must possess a valid unrestricted driver’s license
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience,
  • Experience and ability to operate a backhoe and excavator are required,
  • High school diploma or equivalent required,
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety standards,
  • Manage emergency situations, work pressure and stress,
  • Ability to complete work projects on time and in an effective manner,
  • Demonstrate ability to operate multiple types of heavy equipment safely and
  • Effectively,
  • Must be able to successfully pass a background and drug screening.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to read blueprints and grading plans preferred

Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy equipment in accordance with project requirements and union classification standards. Equipment may include (but is not limited to):
  • Excavators (mid-size to large), Boom Truck, Milling Machine, Dozers, Motor Graders, Backhoes, Loaders, Track Loader, Concrete Paver, Rubber Tire Backhoe, Asphalt Paver, Plant Engineer, and Compactors/Rollers,
  • Perform fine grading, trenching, backfilling, and material placement.
  • Read and interpret site plans, grade stakes, and project specifications,
  • Conduct pre- and post-operational inspections of equipment,
  • Identify and report mechanical issues to supervisor or maintenance team,
  • Perform minor service and refer major issues to the supervisor and dispatcher,
  • Knowledge of trenching and shoring standards,
  • Knowledge of aggregate sizes and classifications,
  • Knowledge of weight requirements of loads,
  • Move materials and objects and operate according to signals from others,
  • Adapt to new and different job sites and team members,
  • Dig, spread and levels dirt, gravel or sand,
  • Adheres to all safety policies,
  • Must wear proper attire at all times including PPE,
  • May be required to work extended hours including evenings, nights, and weekends,
  • Additional duties as assigned.
