About The Position

The Bryan County Board of Commissioners is seeking to hire a Full-Time Equipment Operator Class B for the Public Works Department. This role involves operating assorted heavy equipment, with a specific focus on bulldozers and excavators, to complete assigned public works operations. The position requires punctuality and consistent attendance.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Two years of experience in heavy equipment operation or a related field required.
  • Must obtain a valid Class B CDL Driver’s License within the first 6 months of employment.
  • Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Responsibilities

  • Inspects and prepares equipment for safe and proper operation.
  • Operates one or more of the following pieces of heavy equipment: Motor grader, bulldozer, track excavator, rubber-tired excavator.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on equipment, which includes changing oil, refueling, and refilling lubricants.
  • Ensures repairs are completed on assigned equipment and/or vehicles.
  • Changes flat tires.
  • May operate other equipment such as: backhoe, grass tractor, track front-end loader, pot hole patcher, and other similar equipment.
  • Performs unskilled and semi-skilled labor including picking up paper, limbs, and other debris from roadways.
  • Operates a chain saw.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
