About The Position

Responsible for completion and quality of jobs assigned by Supervisor and/or Crew Leader, as well as for the maintenance of equipment, vehicles, and tools as assigned. This role involves assisting in supervising and working with a crew on assigned jobs, performing safety checks on equipment, and operating various types of machinery. The position requires maintaining tools and equipment, keeping work sites orderly, completing daily reports, and assisting in the general upkeep of Utility buildings and grounds. A good driving record is essential, along with strict adherence to safety practices and guidelines, including the use of personal protective equipment due to potential exposure to hazardous materials. The role also involves assisting in scheduling preventive maintenance, undertaking reasonable requests for the community and Utility, and assisting the Crew Leader in scheduling work and coordinating with homeowners and contractors. The Equipment Operator will assume the Crew Leader role in their absence and perform other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have valid Arkansas commercial driver's license (Class A).
  • Must obtain CDL tanker endorsement within 30 days of employment.
  • Ability to operate and maintain various types of construction and/or cleaning equipment.
  • Knowledge of sewer line construction, repair, cleaning, and/or rehabilitation.
  • Ability to follow and communicate through verbal, written, diagrammed and radio instructions.
  • Ability to read and work from plans and blueprints.
  • Ability to supervise a crew and evaluate performance.
  • Ability to remove and replace manhole lids, climb in and out manholes, and work with tools and equipment.
  • Must have home telephone or reliable telephone contact for call out situations.
  • Ability to work in weather and terrain extremes.
  • Ability to complete reports and forms.
  • Ability to train crew personnel in job requirements.
  • Ability to meet and maintain attendance requirements.
  • Comply with all safety rules and regulations.
  • Must be 18 years old.
  • Ability to be available for on-call weekdays, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Ability to read map books.
  • Ability to communicate with customers and handle complaints.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefer two years of experience in the maintenance and operation of construction and/ or cleaning equipment.
  • Obtain and maintain airport access as required.

Responsibilities

  • Uses pick, shovel, and/or other hand tools according to the requirements of the job at hand.
  • Operates various types of equipment as required.
  • Maintains and accounts for all tools, equipment, and fleet used.
  • Keeps all work sites neat and orderly.
  • Completes daily reports.
  • Assists in general upkeep of Utility buildings and grounds on a regular basis.
  • Maintains a good driving record.
  • Follows safety practices and guidelines at all times, including wearing proper personal protective/safety equipment due to possible exposure to hazardous chemicals, flammable liquids, biological hazards, toxic/flammable compressed gases and confined spaces.
  • Follows established work procedures and practices.
  • Assists in structuring preventive maintenance cleaning schedules in assigned area as required.
  • Undertakes any reasonable request within capabilities that is good for the community and the Utility.
  • Assists the Crew Leader in scheduling work including coordination with homeowners and contractors.
  • Assumes Crew Leader role in their absence.
  • Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
