About The Position
Thurston County Central Services is recruiting for an Equipment Mechanic to join our dynamic, energetic, and innovative Fleet Services team. The successful candidate will inspect, diagnose, and repair all types of equipment used in highway maintenance and other county owned vehicles. This position is considered to be an essential worker and may be required to work during non-business hours or closures in order to meet operational requirements and needs.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Two years of experience working under the direction of a journey-level mechanic and one year as a journey-level mechanic maintaining and repairing light and/or heavy-duty highway equipment.
- Current Washington State Driver's License or have requested and obtained an appropriate accommodation.
- Must obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License with air brake and tanker endorsement, within 6 months from date of hire.
Nice To Haves
- Ability to diagnose and repair major and minor mechanical and electrical defects in vehicles and heavy equipment.
- Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the mechanical trade.
- Skill in operating a variety of hand and power tools used in automotive maintenance work.
- Current ASE Certification.
- Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with members of the public, customers, and internal staff.
- Ability to work as an effective team member.
Responsibilities
- Inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing mechanical equipment on passenger vehicles, construction, agriculture, and forestry equipment, heavy trucks, and all other County-owned equipment.
- Designing and repairing electrical systems.
- Entering job order data on county provided computer using FIMS software.
- Reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and service manuals.
- Utilizing a variety of diagnostic software applications and scan tools.
- Road testing vehicles and equipment after repair.
