About The Position

Discovery Builders is seeking a Mechanic to join the Construction Department. As a Construction Mechanic, you will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and servicing a wide range of construction equipment, vehicles, and machinery used on job sites. Your role will involve diagnosing mechanical issues, performing preventive maintenance tasks, and conducting repairs to ensure the safe and efficient operation of equipment. You will play a vital role in supporting construction projects by keeping equipment in optimal working condition and minimizing downtime due to mechanical failures. In this role, you will be part of creating the Discovery Land Company experience for our members and fellow employees.

Requirements

  • Must have knowledge of the general operations of gasoline, diesel, electric, and hydraulic-powered equipment, the proper methods of servicing golf course equipment, and the repair and adjustment of mowing equipment.
  • Knowledge of proper equipment operation.
  • Understands agronomic cultural practices and daily maintenance of the golf course.
  • Able to read electrical and hydraulic schematics and electrical diagnostic testing equipment.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to stay calm and focused during the busiest of times.
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English; additional languages preferred.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position including, but not limited to, working indoors and outdoors, standing, walking, running, moving for periods of greater than eight (8) hours, heavy lifting, carrying, bending, stooping, squatting, reaching, pushing and pulling sometimes in excess of fifty (50) pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years as a mechanic at a comparable facility preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Communicates any needs or problems relating to maintenance or repair of equipment to the Equipment Manager and/or Assistant Superintendent.
  • Inspects, diagnoses, adjusts and repairs mechanical defects/failures in various pieces of golf course maintenance equipment on a regular basis.
  • Prioritizes equipment repair and maintenance work.
  • Sets up and modifies new equipment as needed.
  • Repairs and adjusts engines and cutting mechanisms on various heavy and light mowing equipment.
  • Keeps maintenance equipment fueled, oiled and inspected; and performs related tasks as required.
  • Keeps maintenance equipment fueled, oiled, lubricated, inspected and performs related tasks as required.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work environment.
  • Assist with the detailing of golf course equipment and utility vehicles.
  • Service and repair golf course utility vehicles and carts as needed.
  • Always takes required tools (including height of cut gauge, paper to test cut, etc.) on the golf course in order to perform service as to not disrupt play on the course.
  • Assist in maintaining clean and well-organized parts of the inventory room.
  • Adheres to the proper recycling and/or disposal of various oils, compounds, and other fluids (antifreeze, oil filters, etc.)
  • Assists in an effective, daily inspection of golf course maintenance equipment.
  • Service, repair, detailing of the interior and exterior of Club Sales, Club carts and Golf Operations vehicles as needed.
  • Assists with daily golf course tasks and cultural practices.
  • Assists with servicing, maintaining and cleaning of the wash down area equipment.
  • Assists the Equipment Manager in training all new hires on the safe operation of all equipment used on the golf course and all aspects of the shops duties, including but not limited to: proper grinding procedures, safe operation of equipment, safe operation of shop tools and machines and proper set up of the days mowers.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work environment.
  • Report to work on time and as scheduled.
  • Comply with all Company policy and procedures.
  • Complete other duties and tasks as assigned by management.
