About The Position

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) is seeking an Equipment Maintenance Technician I to join their Process Engineering team in Manufacturing Operations in West Lafayette, Indiana. This role involves performing preventative maintenance on manufacturing equipment, troubleshooting and repairing issues, and maintaining equipment records. The position requires willingness to travel for training during the initial months of employment. SEL values employee growth and problem-solving, encouraging motivated individuals to apply.

Requirements

  • An associate’s degree in electronic technology or equivalent experience.
  • A basic understanding of electronic, electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic technology and theory.
  • Experience maintaining and performing preventive maintenance on production equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of analog and digital electronics.
  • Basic knowledge of modern test equipment used to diagnose equipment failures.
  • Expertise in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Access.
  • The ability to accept and understand direction, learn new skills and assume new responsibilities with a positive attitude.
  • The ability to perform assigned tasks under direct guidance.
  • Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills.
  • The ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities.
  • The ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience troubleshooting and maintaining automated manufacturing equipment, including analog, digital, and microprocessor circuits as well as vision and robotics systems.
  • Basic knowledge of programming automated production equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of printed circuit board assembly, mechanical assembly, and cable assembly processes.

Responsibilities

  • Independently performing preventative maintenance of basic complexity on manufacturing equipment.
  • Working under the guidance of Supervisor and Tech IIs and IIIs to complete tasks as needed.
  • Performing basic troubleshooting and repair of issues found during preventive maintenance and reactive calls.
  • Entering and maintaining accurate entries in the equipment maintenance database.
  • Learning and applying SEL Values, Principles of Operation, and World Class Manufacturing Principles.
