About The Position

Leo is an innovative program aiming to provide low-latency, high-speed internet to underserved populations across the globe through the deployment of a constellation of over 3000 satellites to Low Earth Orbit. The Equipment Engineer will join the Satellite Hardware Manufacturing Team and be directly responsible for the technical activities in driving improved equipment uptime, availability, and capability improvement for equipment that supports manufacturing of next generation spacecraft. The role is responsible for the full equipment lifecycle for key integration and test equipment, from requirements specification, design concept, sourcing, integration, qualification, pilot operation, long term OEE improvement projects, and ultimately end-of-life services associated with the equipment supported. The engineer will leverage expertise in electro-optical systems development & maintenance to ensure smooth integration & high system availability. They will use data & analysis to produce preventative maintenance programs, troubleshoot protocols, critical spares plans, etc. The role is a key animating force in the increase in production capacity through vision & execution of capital investment for production scaling & automation of additional equipment as required.

Requirements

  • Experience with prototyping and implementation
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent
  • Experience reading & developing rack elevation diagrams, wiring diagrams, GD&T etc.
  • Experience with Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) & Data Acquisition (DAQ) Systems

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the design of complex mechanical products and equipment at volume
  • Experience developing equipment maintenance protocols, including Preventative Maintenance activities, Troubleshooting Runbooks, Spare Equipment Plans, etc.
  • Experience with Fiber Optic Assemblies, Optical Test Systems, and Optical Metrology Equipment

Responsibilities

  • Develop system requirements, and partner with development groups to drive detail design of new equipment
  • Participate in sourcing plans for complex equipment (COTS & custom)
  • Lead equipment integration & site acceptance testing
  • Develop troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and spares plans for equipment
  • Support 2nd line escalation of critical equipment downtime
  • Specify & develop facilities interface requirements (power, network, space, LN2/GN2, PCW)
  • Train & support equipment technicians responsible for routine maintenance, troubleshoot, etc.
