About The Position

Under general supervision, assigns, routes, and directs the field activities of vehicular equipment and operators, and maintains records in connection with equipment, supplies, and personnel. This is a promotional opportunity within the General Services Department.

Requirements

• High school graduation or G.E.D.
• Two years of experience in the operation of construction machinery and/or motor trucks.
• Knowledge of the operation of construction machinery.
• Knowledge of the streets, highways, and routes for vehicle travel within the City of Detroit.
• Skill in mechanical ability.
• Skill in dealing with others.
• Skill in handling transportation problems.
• Ability to direct the economical routing of trucks and construction machinery.
• Ability to keep simple records.

Nice To Haves

• One year of experience in the maintenance of such machinery and equipment is preferred.
• Equivalent combinations of education and experience that provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be evaluated on an individual basis.

Responsibilities

• Receives orders for construction vehicles and machinery required on public works construction and assigns them to jobs.
• Arranges movement of equipment to prevent long hauls and unnecessary delays on construction work.
• Prepares work schedules of vehicular equipment operators and makes assignments.
• Supervises the loading and moving of machinery.
• Receives reports on breakdowns and schedules repairs promptly.
• Maintains records of movements, locations, assignments, and repairs made on equipment.
