About The Position

Perform comprehensive equipment evaluations, collaborates on DME recommendations and consults with patients, families and rehabilitation staff to support safe mobility, positioning and participation. The role includes assessing children with complex medical and developmental needs and ensuring that all assistive technology solutions are optimized for function, comfort, and long-term outcomes.

Requirements

  • Graduate of accredited PT therapy program.
  • Ability to speak, understand, read and write English required.
  • Physical Therapy License from the state of Oklahoma
  • Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) Certification (through RESNA) or willingness to obtain within 1 year of employment.

  • 1-2 year(s) pediatric rehabilitation and pediatric complex care experience in addition to 1-2 year(s) experience in assistive technology, seating/mobility, or DME evaluations.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough PT/OT evaluations to identify pediatric patient’s needs for durable medical equipment (DME) utilizing standardized assessment tools and clinical reasoning to guide equipment recommendations – including: Manual and Powered Mobility, Seating and positioning systems, Standers, gait trainers, and mobility devices, Assistive technology – related components (access methods, mounts, interfaces), Adapted bathing, toileting, and feeding equipment; Assess postural control, motor skills, tone, musculoskeletal alignment, ROM, strength, endurance, ADL participation, and functional mobility to guide equipment selection in conjunction with attending therapists.
  • Participating as an active member of the interdisciplinary AT Team; contributing to integrated equipment planning for patients with combined mobility, seating, communication and access needs; Assist in complex team-based problem solving for children requiring multi-system AT solutions
  • Plan and execute equipment trials, fittings, deliveries, and follow-up sessions with colleagues, patients, and/or caregivers; follow through assistance for colleagues re: LMN process and with DME company orders, quotes, deliveries and billing; adjust and configure equipment to ensure optimal safety, positioning, access and function as needed; expand equipment trial opportunities for powered mobility; provide training to patients and caregivers on safe use and maintenance of prescribed equipment.
  • Serve as a resource for inpatient and outpatient rehab therapists requesting equipment guidance; Provide recommendations to PT/OT colleagues regarding positioning strategies, adaptive equipment options, and mobility-related needs; Participate in rounding, case conferences, and discharge planning PRN to ensure continuity and safety of equipment recommendations; Coordinate with school/community based therapists or community service providers as needed; Communicate and collaborate with providers, nurses, case managers, social workers, orthotists, prosthetists, therapists, educators and other members of the care team
  • Guide families through the DME procurement process, including insurance requirements, justification letters, and follow-up; Provide written and verbal instructions related to positioning, access and functional use of devices; Collaborate with DME vendors in the delivery of equipment; Collaborate with therapy colleagues and providers in preparing LMN and documentation needed for insurance authorization
  • Complete timely and accurate documentation of evaluations, trials, and equipment recommendations; Follow hospital, state, and federal guidelines including safety, regulatory, and accreditation standards; Maintain knowledge of DME ordering processes, vendor requirements, and billing codes
  • Participate in quality improvement projects within the Assistive Technology Team; Maintain current knowledge of pediatric assistive technology and DME innovations; Attend continuing education related to seating, mobility and AT advancements
  • Other duties as assigned
