About The Position

The Equine Specialist provides basic care for the horses, including grooming, exercising, saddling, and feeding. This role also involves working directly with clients at the Residential Treatment Facility within the horse program. The specialist will coach and mentor clients while they work with horses, providing structure, discipline, and security. They will serve as an adult role model and a source of feedback, developing and implementing program curriculum to support learning, skill-building, and therapeutic engagement. The role requires intervening in crisis situations using the Mandt system, reporting to work on time, documenting client interactions, and ensuring the cleanliness and safety of horse facilities. The Equine Specialist must also perform cleaning and maintenance duties, implement company policies and procedures, and adhere to all relevant standards and regulations. Protecting clients' rights and following safety procedures are paramount.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Mandt system training.
  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Must pass a physical examination, including drug screen and TB Skin Test.
  • Must pass an MVR, KBI and Child Abuse and Neglect Central Registry Clearance check.
  • FBI Fingerprint Check.
  • Must have valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Lifting requirements of 50 lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • One year experience training horses.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures that basic care for the horses in the Horse Program is provided, to include grooming, exercising, saddling, and feeding of horses.
  • Coaches and mentors, the client while they are working with horses.
  • Provides structure, discipline, and security in meeting the needs of the clients while they are working with the horses in the Horse Program.
  • Serves as an adult role model and a source of feedback to the clients.
  • Develops and implements program curriculum to support structured learning, skill-building, and therapeutic engagement within the Horse Program.
  • Intervenes in crisis situations using the approved Mandt system.
  • Reports to work at scheduled times and remains on duty until end of shift.
  • Documents significant behaviors and significant contact with client.
  • Ensure that the horse barns, stables, and training areas are clean and free of any hazardous materials.
  • Perform assigned cleaning or maintenance duties.
  • Implements Saint Francis Ministries policies and follow directives as required. Follows and adheres to all pertinent Saint Francis Ministries Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), rules, personnel policies and procedures; related accreditation and licensure standards; and federal, state and local rules, statutes, regulations, and all contractual terms.
  • Reports unusual incidents through appropriate Risk Management, clinical and safety channels.
  • Ensures clients’ rights are protected.
  • Is knowledgeable of and follows all safety procedures
