About The Position

The Epidemiology Specialist will be responsible for assisting with the daily functions of the TB Prevention & Control division of the Public Health Department. This includes investigating TB cases and suspects, identifying and following up on all contacts (e.g., skin tests, x-rays, medical clinic appointments, and ninety-day repeat TSTs). The role is also responsible for all high-risk screening activities and other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Competency with computers and Microsoft Office 365 Suite.
  • Advanced analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and forms, equipment, methods and techniques used to provide counseling services
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of public health education; pertinent federal, state, and local codes laws and regulations; communicable disease and how to protect themselves from disease process.
  • Understanding of filing system and maintaining a large changing database
  • Ability to work without constant supervision
  • Bachelor’s degree with major course work in Public Health, Natural Science, or a related field, and two (2) years of increasingly responsible disease counseling or prevention experience, required OR An Associate’s degree/LVN with four (4) years of TB/STD/HIV experience required.
  • Must possess a valid Texas driver’s license.

  • Spanish and English proficiency in oral and written communication preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Contacts investigation interview, works up testing and referrals for TB cases and suspects
  • Responsible for all paperwork related to contact investigation
  • Performs high risk screening activities
  • Locates, transports and medicates patients
  • Performs all other related duties involved in the operation of the Public Health Department as assigned or required
  • Performs all other duties as assigned
