About The Position

This position is located in the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Center for Tobacco Products (CTP), Office of Science (OS), Division of Population Health Science (DPHS). The selectee must adhere to the FDA Telework Policy, which requires regular in-person reporting to a designated FDA facility as determined by agency policy. The role serves as a consultant/expert on epidemiological issues related to tobacco products with responsibility for overseeing rapid and ongoing surveillance activities for monitoring an increasingly complex tobacco marketplace. The position provides technical consultation and support to internal and external partners on a variety of epidemiological issues concerning tobacco product surveillance. It also involves applying epidemiological techniques and analysis in conducting complex reviews and analyses and developing authoritative interpretations, conclusions, and scientific advice for disseminating findings.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must complete the I-9 form and be processed through e-Verify.
  • Must be registered with the Selective Service System or have an approved exemption (for males born after 12/31/1959).
  • Must pass a security investigation.
  • Must meet Time-in-Grade requirements (if a current Federal employee).
  • Must meet ALL requirements by the closing date of the announcement.
  • Degree: Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences.
  • 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 in the Federal service, which includes: conducting epidemiological studies or surveillance investigations related to tobacco use, behaviors related to other regulated products, and/or other health behaviors; providing expert advice or guidance to scientists, program officials, or other high-level stakeholders on scientific and technical epidemiological and/or surveillance findings; and developing conclusions, recommendations, or guidance to address epidemiological or public health issues.
