About The Position

The Epic Technical Project Manager oversees the implementation and optimization of infrastructure solutions (e.g., networks, data centers, cloud platforms, medical and end-user devices) necessary for the implementation of our Electronic Health Record system and related technologies. Ensures scalability, security, and performance of implemented solutions. Manages technology transitions, upgrades and migrations. Helps IT and Business leaders manage vendors and resources. Collaborates with vendors to ensure timely delivery of services and adherence to SLAs. Allocate and manage internal and external resources effectively.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a health, science, technology or business field. Or, in lieu of a degree, six (6) years of related professional experience, managing or supporting technology in clinical, education, or business environments will be considered.
  • Technology experience should be focused on infrastructure type projects in healthcare information systems, clinical informatics, data management and administration.
  • Proven success in IT project management, with demonstrable proficiency in project management tools and methodologies (e.g., Agile, Scrum, Waterfall). Must be comfortable managing multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong understanding of IT infrastructure concepts, including networking, virtualization, end-user devices, security, and cloud platforms.
  • Must have demonstrated experience working with clinicians, academics, and/or researchers in a support and/or facilitation role. Able to exercise problem-solving skills and good judgment based on guiding principles and organizational policies/practices.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently and as a member of a team. Strong leadership potential with experience presenting to executive audiences. Must be customer focused.

Nice To Haves

  • Active PMP and/or Epic Certifications (considered) in relevant Core technologies. Understanding of Epic technical architecture and knowledge of Epic suite of products.
  • Experience leading technical teams through enterprise-scale implementations, including 3rd party management.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent certification.
  • Advanced knowledge of cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Experience with ITIL practices and service management frameworks.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity best practices in infrastructure projects.
  • Master's degree in IT or related field.
  • Epic Certification

Responsibilities

  • Project Planning: Lead large technical teams, including management of staff.
  • Defining scope, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Aligning project goals with institutional strategies.
  • Coordinating across clinical, technical, and operational teams.
  • Managing risk assessments and mitigation plans.
  • This function is foundational and often consumes the largest share of time, especially during pre-work and configuration phases.
  • Stakeholder Engagement & Communication: Facilitating communication between IT, clinicians, Epic, consultants, and leadership.
  • Leading steering committees and advisory councils.
  • Preparing and presenting status reports, decision summaries, and SBARs.
  • Managing communication and organizational change alignment.
  • System Configuration & Workflow Alignment & Oversight: Customization of Epic modules to meet clinical and operational needs.
  • Decision tracking for build options and workflows (e.g., Orion building blocks).
  • Coordination of specialty-specific workflows (e.g., resident attestation, APP supervision).
  • Integration with third-party systems.
  • Training, Go-Live, & Optimization Support: Overseeing end-user training and readiness.
  • Supporting go-live stabilization and KPI tracking (e.g., Gold Stars, MyChart adoption).
  • Lead post-live optimization efforts.
  • Ensuring alignment with compliance, legal, and patient experience goals.
  • Marginal or Periodic Functions: Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.
  • Performs related duties as required.
