Beacon is Epic Systems' medical oncology module, in which physicians can document cancer staging, and manage chemotherapy by creating and personalizing treatment plans based on standard oncology protocols. The MIT-Epic Beacon/Oncology Team supports Montefiore Medical Centers' EMR and Third-Party Systems for The Cancer Center and Oncology specialties. Epic requires Maintenance & Support, which includes frequent Upgrades/SUs, optimizations, and customizations. We are seeking a Senior Application Analyst for the Beacon team. This role’s primary responsibility will be oncology research protocol build, testing, and validation. This position will also share after-hours on-call responsibilities with other members of the Beacon team, to include downtime testing during system patches and upgrades.

Requirements

  • Epic Beacon certification.
  • Pharmacy Clinical license
  • Minimum of 3 years working in a related clinical, healthcare, or technical position.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Strong desktop skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Visio).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.

  • Willow Certification (with medication build experience).

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary application analyst supporting the Oncology Research initiative within Epic Beacon and Willow.
  • Coordinate and manage research-related build activities from initial requirements through validation, testing, implementation, and post-implementation support.
  • Attend recurring oncology research meetings, huddles, and project discussions and provide clear, accurate status updates.
  • Maintain and manage the oncology research build tracker, including project status, milestones, dependencies, outstanding issues, and action items.
  • Partner with clinical research, oncology, pharmacy, and IT stakeholders to understand study requirements and translate them into appropriate Epic solutions.
  • Design, build, test, and maintain research medications and oncology treatment protocols in Epic Beacon and Willow.
  • Translate clinical and research requirements into functional Epic application specifications and configuration.
  • Ensure research builds appropriately reflect study-specific requirements while remaining consistent with Montefiore workflows, standards, and system design.
  • Apply appropriate clinical and operational judgment when evaluating build requests and determining the optimal Epic solution.
  • Work independently in a fully remote environment while maintaining strong communication, accountability, and follow-through.
  • Conduct thorough quality assurance reviews of Beacon research builds completed by other analysts.
  • Validate research protocol and medication builds for accuracy, consistency, clinical appropriateness, and adherence to established build standards.
  • Develop comprehensive test plans and test scenarios based on clinical, operational, and research requirements.
  • Document testing results, identify defects or discrepancies, and coordinate appropriate resolution.
  • Participate in formal validation and change control processes in accordance with Montefiore standards.
  • Participate in regular application team meetings, project meetings, status reviews, and strategic planning sessions.
  • Interpret end-user requirements and determine appropriate solutions while identifying potential downstream impacts or workflow concerns.
  • Provide timely, effective, and professional customer support.
  • Escalate issues appropriately and collaborate with other application teams, vendors, clinical stakeholders, and technical resources when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate and current documentation for application build, testing, validation, workflows, and research protocols.
