About The Position

ZAP Engineering and Construction Services, Inc. is seeking an EPC Project Assistant for their Lakewood, CO office. This role is crucial for managing weld map data entry, ensuring accurate tracking of welds, NDT results, and material test reports in WeldTrace. The position also involves preparing and checking piping test packages (hydrostatic and pneumatic) and performing quantity takeoffs for concrete, structural steel, and piping. This is an office-based position with a fast pace and a team-centric approach, offering a direct path into project controls, estimating, or QA/QC roles.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail entering high volumes of technical data.
  • Ability to read construction drawings (piping isometrics, P&IDs, weld maps, structural and civil plans).
  • Competent in Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) and other required software.
  • Comfortable with basic construction math (areas, volumes, weights, linear footage, diameter inch).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to self-direct and take responsibility for tasks, deliverables, and timelines.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's degree.
  • 1+ years of project administrative, document control, or QC data entry experience.
  • 1+ years of industry experience in engineering and construction.
  • Experience with WeldTrace or a similar weld tracking / QC database.
  • Familiarity with NDT reports (RT, UT, PT, MT), MTRs, and heat number traceability in an ASME B31.3 environment.
  • Experience preparing or checking piping test packages (test books) for hydrostatic or pneumatic testing.
  • Working knowledge of ASME B31.3 pressure testing requirements.
  • Familiarity with flange bolt-up and torque logs.
  • Quantity takeoff experience for concrete, structural steel, or piping.
  • Exposure to progress reporting or earned value management (EVM).

Responsibilities

  • Annotate weld maps in WeldTrace with weld numbers, welder IDs, weld procedures, and dates.
  • Enter welding and NDT results (RT, UT, PT, MT) against each weld, including acceptance status and repair history.
  • Enter material test report (MTR) and heat number data for full weld traceability.
  • Input and annotate weld progress and maintain diameter-inch complete figures for reporting.
  • Maintain WeldTrace projects, including drawing and line revisions, weld map updates, and welder/procedure records.
  • Verify documentation requirements for each weld and flag missing or conflicting records.
  • Prepare piping test books (test packages) for hydrostatic and pneumatic testing, marking test boundaries and specifying test parameters.
  • Edit and check test packages prepared by others, confirming boundaries, test parameters, and documentation.
  • Compile weld, material, and NDT records to support test packages and resolve documentation gaps.
  • Track test package status from preparation through client sign-off and turnover.
  • Assist with job preparation by assembling drawing, weld map, and test package sets.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs from drawings for concrete volumes, structural steel tonnage, pipe footage, and weld inch.
  • Take off pipe footage from isometrics and piping plans and reconcile with the line list.
  • Number flanges on isometrics and perform takeoff for flange counts to build and maintain the flange torque log.
  • Summarize takeoff quantities for use in estimates, budgets, and progress reporting.
  • Track installed quantities against takeoffs for progress reporting.
  • Re-take off quantities when drawings are revised and identify changes.
  • File welding, NDT, and material documentation on the project network and file-sharing sites.
  • Assist with project closeout by assembling turnover documentation and archiving project folders.
  • Assist with various tasks to support EPC construction project execution.
