About The Position

Centrus Energy is seeking a senior field construction specialist to plan and control field execution of facility modifications and new installations at the American Centrifuge Plant (ACP) on the DOE Portsmouth reservation in Piketon, Ohio. Work is subject to NRC regulation and requires rigorous safety, quality, and regulatory discipline throughout construction and turnover. The projects support evolving mission needs and infrastructure changes across potential enrichment and processing operations, with an estimated construction value of over $1 billion over the next five years. The position oversees construction contractors and supports planning, constructability, execution, regulatory compliance, testing, commissioning, and turnover for ACPx projects. Projects include renovation of legacy facilities and construction of new nuclear-quality structures. The successful candidate must obtain and maintain a Q security clearance or Top Secret clearance, as specified in the posting.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years in a construction engineering or field engineering role for industrial facilities, including oversight of contractors and multidisciplinary field scopes.
  • Hands-on experience with work planning and approval documentation, QA/QC inspections, welding, mechanical and electrical installation oversight, and startup/commissioning support.
  • Familiarity with RFIs, NCRs, test plans, and as-built control.
  • Demonstrated collaboration with EPCs and vendors and familiarity with progress tracking, change control, and field estimating.
  • Working knowledge of DOE site operations or similarly regulated environments, and ability to execute work consistent with ACP’s licensing basis and site procedures.
  • Practical application of NEC, NFPA 70E, OSHA, IEEE, and NEMA, with a strong safety leadership record supporting high-hazard work.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Civil/Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, or related) or Construction Management from an accredited institution.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Q-level security clearance; the posting also states that a successful candidate must be able to obtain an active Q or Top Secret clearance.
  • Must complete a pre-employment background check and drug test; employees requiring a security clearance are subject to additional federal background investigation and applicable drug testing requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Act as Subcontract Technical Representative for field construction contractors and ensure they meet contractual requirements for assigned scopes of work.
  • Support project planning, including contracted scopes, cost, schedule, risks, and opportunities for ACPx projects.
  • Support constructability reviews of conceptual and detailed design outputs, including statements of work, specifications, and drawings.
  • Support execution of design outputs through contractors into work deliverables such as permits, procedures, testing, hold points, and acceptance criteria.
  • Sponsor resolution of RFIs and RFCs, manage redlines, and drive as-built documentation to maintain configuration control.
  • Support or lead construction scopes administered through EPC and specialty contractors; monitor cost, schedule, and performance, enforce contract requirements, manage change orders, and verify progress.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance during field execution with applicable codes and standards, site procedures, and the ACP licensing and regulatory framework.
  • Promote safety among construction staff, including industrial and electrical safety and DOE/nuclear-quality expectations during pre-job briefs, hazard analyses, and audits; verify contractor compliance and ensure immediate corrective action for deficiencies.
  • Plan and witness construction tests, ensure punch-list completion, and coordinate functional testing and energization with operations to achieve Ready-for-Operations status and complete handover packages.
  • Provide field status, risks, and mitigations to project managers and site leadership; coordinate interfaces with DOE and utility stakeholders as needed for power or site services.
  • Capture lessons learned and propose procedural or design feedback to reduce rework and improve constructability on future ACP/HALEU scopes.
