About The Position

Sceye is seeking an Environmental Testing Engineer to own the planning, execution, and continuous improvement of environmental test campaigns for its advanced aerospace platform. The role validates system performance, reliability, and safety across demanding operational environments, including high-altitude and stratospheric conditions. This is a senior individual-contributor role. The engineer translates system-level requirements into environmental test programs, collaborates with engineers across the company, and ensures test readiness, execution, and reporting meet internal and external standards. The role includes hands-on ownership of test campaigns and infrastructure, along with mentoring as the test team grows.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Test Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Typically 5+ years of experience in environmental testing for aerospace or complex systems; demonstrated capability and judgment are valued over years of experience alone.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and executing environmental test programs.
  • Strong understanding of environmental test standards and best practices.
  • Proven ability to own technically complex efforts and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience owning test equipment, facilities, or infrastructure.
  • Strong analytical, documentation, and technical communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in startup or scale-up aerospace environments.
  • Experience with test automation, data acquisition systems, and advanced instrumentation.
  • Experience with high-altitude or stratospheric testing environments.
  • Background in lighter-than-air systems, unmanned systems, or novel aerospace platforms.
  • Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with FAA or other regulatory certification testing requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Design, plan, and execute environmental test campaigns, initially covering thermal and altitude testing and potentially expanding into UV, EMI, vibration, humidity, and other domains.
  • Translate system and subsystem requirements into test objectives, margins, procedures, and acceptance criteria.
  • Develop and maintain proto-qualification, qualification, and acceptance test standards tailored to Sceye’s stratospheric environment from applicable industry standards such as MIL-STD-810, GEVS, and SMC-S-016.
  • Own test campaigns from concept and planning through execution, data analysis, and final reporting, and lead associated test readiness reviews (TRRs).
  • Specify, procure, and maintain environmental test equipment and infrastructure, including coordinating with vendors.
  • Work with systems, structures, avionics, and operations teams, and mentor test engineers and technicians as the team grows.
  • Analyze test data, document results, and present findings and recommendations to engineering leadership.
  • Identify risks, gaps, and opportunities to improve test programs and infrastructure.

Benefits

  • Chef-prepared onsite lunches.
  • Snacks and refreshments available throughout the day.
  • Access to a gym, pickleball court, and outdoor dog kennel.
  • Dog-friendly workplace.
  • Medical, dental, vision, and disability insurance, with over 82% of premiums covered and 100% for everything else.
  • 401(k) with company match; company contributions are vested from day one.
  • Collaborative, inclusive work environment.
