About The Position

Relativity Space is building rockets to serve today’s needs and tomorrow’s breakthroughs. The Terran R vehicle will deliver customer payloads to orbit, meeting the growing demand for launch capacity. This role is within the Avionics team, which is responsible for all aspects of electrical design on the rocket, including electronics, interconnects, associated mechanical design, testing, and initial production. This team's scope includes flight computers, power systems, RF systems, PCB design, autonomous flight safety systems, and telemetry. The Environmental Test Specialist will lead hands-on execution of environmental testing operations in support of Terran R avionics development and production hardware, including vibration, shock, and thermal testing activities. This role requires executing qualification test procedures (QTP) and acceptance test procedures (ATP) with minimal supervision while ensuring safe, repeatable, and efficient test execution. The specialist will support setup, instrumentation, operation, troubleshooting, and teardown of environmental test configurations across vibration tables, shock systems, and thermal chambers. This includes configuring and operating data acquisition systems, accelerometers, thermocouples, and supporting instrumentation. The role involves interpreting engineering drawings, test procedures, schematics, and hardware handling requirements, and serving as a technical resource within the environmental test lab. Collaboration with test engineers, avionics engineers, manufacturing teams, and quality personnel is essential for troubleshooting, workflow improvement, and maintaining flight-readiness standards. The position also requires exporting, organizing, and communicating test data clearly to engineering teams for post-test analysis, anomaly resolution, and hardware disposition, while supporting rapid development cycles and aggressive production schedules.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience supporting environmental testing operations within aerospace, defense, electronics, or other high-reliability hardware environments
  • Hands-on experience independently executing acceptance testing (ATP) and environmental test procedures with minimal supervision
  • Strong understanding of vibration, shock, and/or thermal testing operations, including test setup, instrumentation, and hardware handling practices
  • Experience configuring and operating environmental test equipment and supporting instrumentation, including thermal chambers, vibration systems, accelerometers, thermocouples, and data acquisition systems
  • Ability to interpret test procedures, engineering drawings, schematics, and hardware requirements to execute complex test campaigns accurately and efficiently
  • Experience exporting, organizing, and communicating test data to engineering teams for review and analysis
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to identify setup issues, test anomalies, and hardware concerns in fast-paced development environments
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail, capable of maintaining accurate documentation and supporting root cause investigations

Nice To Haves

  • Engineering degree
  • Experience supporting aerospace flight hardware qualification testing programs
  • Familiarity with environmental test standards such as SMC-S-016, MIL-STD-1540, DO-160, or similar aerospace specifications
  • Experience supporting both development and production-rate environmental testing environments
  • Experience with test scheduling systems, MES/ERP systems, or digital test documentation workflows

Responsibilities

  • Lead hands-on execution of environmental testing operations in support of Terran R avionics development and production hardware, including vibration, shock, and thermal testing activities
  • Execute qualification test procedures (QTP) and acceptance test procedures (ATP) with minimal supervision while ensuring safe, repeatable, and efficient test execution
  • Support setup, instrumentation, operation, troubleshooting, and teardown of environmental test configurations across vibration tables, shock systems, and thermal chambers
  • Configure and operate data acquisition systems, accelerometers, thermocouples, and supporting instrumentation required for environmental test execution and data collection
  • Interpret engineering drawings, test procedures, schematics, and hardware handling requirements to ensure proper test setup and execution
  • Serve as a technical resource within the environmental test lab, supporting test readiness activities, fixture setup, hardware integration, and configuration control of flight and development hardware
  • Collaborate closely with test engineers, avionics engineers, manufacturing teams, and quality personnel to troubleshoot test issues, improve workflows, and maintain flight-readiness standards
  • Export, organize, and communicate test data clearly to engineering teams to support post-test analysis, anomaly resolution, and hardware disposition activities
  • Support rapid development cycles and aggressive production schedules while maintaining high workmanship, safety, and documentation standards
