About The Position

The Environmental Technician is responsible for supporting a variety of environmental field projects through site investigations, sampling activities, remediation system operations, and environmental compliance efforts. This position plays a key role in collecting accurate field data, maintaining equipment, and assisting project teams with environmental assessments and remediation activities. Based out of our Altoona, PA office, the Environmental Technician works closely with geologists, engineers, scientists, project managers, and clients to support environmental investigations and remediation projects throughout the region. This role offers a combination of field work, travel, and hands-on technical experience while providing opportunities for professional growth within a collaborative team environment.

Requirements

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Environmental Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Previous environmental field experience is preferred but not required.
  • Strong understanding of environmental sampling techniques and field data collection.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Experience using environmental field equipment such as PID meters, data loggers, groundwater sampling equipment, and drill rigs is preferred.
  • Mechanical aptitude with the ability to perform minor equipment repairs and assist with remediation system maintenance is a plus.
  • OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification preferred or willingness to obtain (company provided).
  • Professional certifications or pursuit of certifications such as Professional Geologist (PG), Geologist in Training (GIT), Underground Storage Tank (UST), Asbestos, or Lead certifications are a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently.
  • Ability to understand and follow technical procedures, regulatory requirements, and safety protocols.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Perform groundwater, soil, and other environmental sampling activities in accordance with project requirements and regulatory standards.
  • Assist with geological and hydrogeological investigations.
  • Operate, inspect, troubleshoot, and perform routine maintenance on environmental remediation systems.
  • Support environmental drilling operations, including logging soil and rock samples and documenting field observations.
  • Assist with Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments and other environmental investigations.
  • Collect, record, and maintain accurate field notes, sampling documentation, and project data.
  • Operate and maintain field equipment, including PID meters, data loggers, groundwater sampling equipment, and other environmental monitoring instruments.
  • Perform routine care and maintenance of company vehicles, tools, and field equipment.
  • Follow environmental regulations, company safety procedures, and project-specific requirements.
  • Coordinate with project managers and technical staff to support successful project execution.
  • Travel to project sites throughout the region, including overnight travel as required.
  • Any other duties, as necessary, to drive the vision, fulfill the mission, and uphold the values of the organization.
