About The Position

GHD is seeking an Environmental Field Technician to join our Environmental team in Phoenix, AZ. You will support hands-on remediation work at a client site, including but not limited to soil sampling activities, such as the use of a hand auger, pick, decontamination equipment, and other related equipment. This position is full-time and may involve a 4/10 schedule (Monday through Thursday, 10 hours per day) or a 5/8 schedule (Monday through Friday, 8 hours per day) as required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED required
  • Sufficient physical flexibility, stamina and balance to perform bending, reaching, kneeling, climbing, walking over rough terrain and lifting or moving up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to lift at least 40 lbs.
  • Ability to work in outdoor desert environments and elements, including changing site conditions, etc.
  • Ability and willingness to perform field work 100% of the time
  • Positive and collaborative work style.
  • Ability to work in a team and take direction.
  • This position requires pre-employment medical and drug screenings, to the extent allowable by applicable law, and employment is contingent upon successfully completing the pre-employment screenings.

Nice To Haves

  • 1 to 3 years of environmental and/or soil sampling experience preferred
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training preferred

Responsibilities

  • Follow the organization's health, safety, and environment (HSE) policies, procedures, and mandatory instructions to identify and mitigate environmental risks and risks to the well-being of self and others in the workplace; instruct the team in safe working methods; identify instances of risky behaviors within the team and take appropriate action, escalating serious issues as appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain excellent process or technical skills by participating in assessment and development planning activities as well as formal and informal training and coaching.
  • Perform a broad range of tests requiring detailed assessment, measurement, and judgment.
  • Interpret data and identify possible answers. Involves navigating a wide variety of processes, procedures, and precedents.
  • Develop working knowledge of the organization’s policies and procedures and of regulatory codes and codes of conduct relevant to own work, adhering to mandatory procedures to ensure own work is undertaken to the required standards.
  • Carry out operational waste management tasks by following established processes.
  • Support technical troubleshooting efforts, aiding in the quick and accurate identification, analysis, and resolution of technical issues with equipment and experiments.
