About The Position

Under general supervision, the Environmental Technician performs manual labor related to litter cleanup and environmental maintenance on beaches and roadways throughout Horry County. The position operates equipment, leads assigned crews, and ensures adherence to county policies and safety regulations. The position reports directly to the Supervisor III.

Requirements

• Knowledge of safety rules and regulations applicable to litter control and heavy equipment operations.
• Ability to operate heavy machinery and perform labor-intensive tasks.
• Strong verbal communication skills to follow instructions and lead crew members effectively.
• Ability to make sound decisions and work independently with general supervision.
• Ability to perform lifting, carrying, bending, and standing for extended periods.

Nice To Haves

• Previous experience in public works, litter control, or a related field.
• Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience that provide the required knowledge and abilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead crews performing litter detail on beaches or along highways as assigned.
• Operate heavy equipment, including backhoes and other large machinery, particularly in beach environments.
• Perform manual labor, including lifting, carrying, bending, and standing for extended periods.
• Perform routine preventative maintenance inspections on department vehicles and equipment.
• Perform other related duties as assigned or required.
