About The Position

MPS Group, Inc., is seeking an Environmental Technician to join our team at the GM Factory Zero Complex located in Detroit, MI. This individual will be responsible for handling solid and hazardous waste at the plant. The shift is the 1st Shift, Monday-Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of one year experience in waste management.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.
  • Ability to pass a background check.
  • Ability to pass a drug test.

Nice To Haves

  • Current 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) with Annual Refresher (desired); will be provided upon hire.
  • Current Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA, desired); will be provided upon hire.
  • Current 40-hour Department of Transportation (DOT, desired); will be provided upon hire.
  • Current Fork Truck Operator Training (desired); will be provided upon hire.

Responsibilities

  • Collect trash, recyclables, hazardous waste, scrap metal, and other waste streams throughout the plant and transport them to disposal containers or storage rooms.
  • Segregate, sort, and package waste streams for off-site shipment in accordance with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requirements.
  • Load semi-trailers and roll-off boxes for shipment to landfills, recycling centers, and other disposal sites.
  • Perform and document daily equipment inspections prior to use.
  • Clean and maintain the organization and compliance of the 90-day Accumulation Area, including sweeping the floor, mopping the floor, and labeling drums.
  • Assist the supervisor in responding to chemical spill incidents by placing adsorbents on liquids, sweeping or vacuuming solids, and containerizing cleaned-up materials for proper disposal.
  • Assist the Resource Manager with daily supply delivery, waste pick-up, and waste organization.
  • Perform inspections of waste storage areas and emergency equipment and take corrective action to eliminate deficiencies identified during inspections.
  • Inventory and inspect waste spill kits.
  • Document and inform the Resource Manager of any contamination in the plant’s recycling and waste containers.
  • Maintain and complete necessary documentation of waste inventories, inspections, and other required activities.
  • Operate a fork truck to load and unload trucks.
  • Operate a burden carrier.
  • Follow all plant-related safety guidelines.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the manager.
