About The Position

Q&A Diversified is seeking an Environmental Technician to support the Compliance Management Branch at Fort Polk, Louisiana. This role provides hazardous waste technical expertise, ensuring compliance across facilities and units within the Public Works Environmental Division. Responsibilities include managing parts washer solvent machines, providing technical assistance for hazardous waste compliance, and supporting emergency spill response. The position also involves maintaining solvent machine inventory, distilling used solvent, performing maintenance, and assisting with hazardous waste storage facilities. Additionally, the technician will obtain product samples for analysis, ensure environmental compliance for solvent distillation operations, conduct environmental pre-clearance inspections, brief rotational units on environmental concerns, and provide environmental compliance support and training.

Requirements

High School diploma required.
Knowledge and experience conducting technical environmental support.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills to include experience preparing regulatory reports (e.g., MS4 Annual Report, IGP Annual Report, etc.).
Must be physically capable of lifting, removing, and replacing heavy manhole covers utilizing appropriate tools.
Experience with MS Windows OS and Office software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Excellent time management and organizational skills.
Self-starter with ability to work independently and meet strict government and regulatory reporting requirements.
A valid driver's license is required to travel or operate government or company vehicles and equipment.
Able to pass a drug screening and government background investigation/obtain favorable National Agency Check with Inquiry (NACI) in order to maintain a Common Access Card (CAC) and Information Technology (IT) access.

Associate or bachelor's degree in a related field.
Prior military experience supporting environmental programs on a military installation.
Prior experience teaching hazardous waste and material management.

Responsibilities

Provide hazardous waste technical expertise and ensure compliance throughout the facilities and units within the Public Works Environmental Division at Fort Polk.
Manage parts washer solvent machines, including servicing and replacing solvent.
Provide technical assistance for tracking and meeting hazardous waste compliance requirements for RCRA Subtitle C, Hazardous Waste Management, 40 CFR 260-262, 40 CFR Part 372, DOD, state, and local regulations.
Support the 24/7 emergency hazardous material/hazardous waste spill response team by responding within 90 minutes of spill notification and overseeing the management and handling of all spill media, preparing a report for each response.
Assist in serving all solvent tanks on the installation, including adding solvent, cleaning and changing filters, and replacing hose lines and pumps when needed.
Maintain inventory of all solvent machines, their locations, and needed supplies and equipment.
Distill used parts washer solvent/antifreeze as needed and document/maintain statistical information.
Perform required maintenance on solvent and antifreeze machines and order necessary supplies/equipment.
Maintain copies of all requisition documents used in support of the distillation operation.
Assist in the maintenance of two 90-day storage facilities in accordance with 40 CFR 262.34, inspecting each facility weekly.
Obtain samples of products for analytical testing (approx. 30 sampling events), complete chain of custody forms, and coordinate with waste generators for paperwork.
Ensure Environmental Compliance for solvent distillation operation, including storage and disposal of waste solvent and antifreeze according to LDEQ Regulations.
Assist in conducting environmental pre-clearance inspections at the APOD upon completion of each rotation and provide a deficiency list.
Attend and brief up to 60 rotational unit briefings to detail environmental concerns and develop corrective action/response plans.
Provide environmental compliance support, supplies, and equipment to Rotational troops at the APOD training.
Conduct Environmental Compliance briefings/classes for installation personnel, according to Army Environmental guidelines.
