About The Position

The Environmental Technician is responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of landfill gas extraction systems, leachate collection systems, and other related systems at Republic Services’ landfills. The role monitors these systems and ensures work complies with safety regulations and applicable federal and state requirements. The technician may also conduct environmental sampling, perform landfill surveying, and prepare required operational reports.

Requirements

At least 1 year of experience working at a site regulated by OSHA.
Good time-management skills to complete assigned responsibilities efficiently and safely.
Good communication skills, including the ability to communicate operating issues effectively to management.
Good follow-through, including adherence to the work schedule and addressing challenges as they arise.
Ability to adhere to company policies and rules and promote company safety standards.

Responsibilities

Conduct or assist with environmental sampling, which may include groundwater, surface water, air quality, and gas migration.
Measure and record gas levels in landfill well fields and at probes along landfill boundaries to support compliance with safety regulations and federal and state requirements.
Troubleshoot and correct landfill gas extraction system issues, and report more complicated problems to management for timely correction.
Manage and troubleshoot the leachate system to ensure it operates in accordance with safety standards and federal and state regulations.
Perform landfill surveying activities as required.
Prepare and submit required reporting data concerning landfill gas extraction, leachate, and related systems.
Perform responsibilities safely and efficiently, adhering to applicable safety regulations and federal and state requirements.
Perform other job-related duties as required.
