About The Position

Provides field and administrative support for Clean Water Act and `NPDES` compliance programs. Performs routine inspections and sampling, maintains monitoring records, and supports timely data entry and report preparation for Government wastewater and stormwater compliance requirements.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate degree or technical coursework in environmental science, biology, chemistry, or a related field preferred.
  • 1–3 years of experience performing environmental sampling, industrial/wastewater field work, or environmental compliance support (internship experience counts).
  • Ability to follow written procedures and `QAPP` requirements, use field meters/equipment, and maintain accurate field notes and chain-of-custody records.
  • Basic computer skills, including data entry and use of spreadsheets and web-based reporting systems (experience with `NetDMR` preferred).
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying conditions and around industrial/wastewater environments while wearing required PPE.
  • Prior experience supporting `NPDES` programs, outfall sampling, or wastewater treatment plant operations.
  • Familiarity with IDEM `NetDMR` data entry and common water quality parameters.
  • Current safety training relevant to field work (e.g., HAZWOPER awareness level or site safety orientation), as required by the work site.
  • Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine `NPDES` compliance inspections and field checks of outfalls and monitoring locations; document observations, take photos, and report issues to the program lead.
  • Collect wastewater and stormwater samples for a permitted system with 19 outfalls (13 direct and 6 internal) on required frequencies (weekly/monthly/semi-annual/annual), following established sampling plans and procedures.
  • Follow the approved project-specific `QAPP` requirements for all sampling, field activities, and sample handling; maintain field logs, calibration records, and complete chain-of-custody documentation.
  • Coordinate sample shipment/drop-off with the laboratory and track results to support compliance deadlines.
  • Enter sampling results into IDEM `NetDMR` and other required electronic portals, under the direction/review of senior staff; verify entries for completeness and accuracy.
  • Maintain `NPDES` program files and data (inspection forms, lab reports, field notes, corrective action tracking, and correspondence) to support audits and recurring reporting.
  • Assist with preparation of routine compliance deliverables (e.g., monthly/quarterly summaries, attachments, figures, tables, and draft narrative sections) for Government review.
  • Support wastewater discharge management tasks by tracking discharge conditions, monitoring schedules, and permit limits/requirements; elevate potential exceedances or unusual conditions immediately.
  • Assist with sedimentation pond monitoring for the Demolition Range and support discharge activities as directed to help meet permit requirements.
  • Provide general program support as needed, including organizing permit documents, compiling historical data, and supporting meetings and data calls.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned
