About The Position

As an Environmental Technician Intern, you’ll support field investigations on active environmental projects, including industrial and redevelopment sites. This role offers hands-on experience alongside experienced professionals while contributing directly to projects that protect public health and the environment. You’ll gain practical field skills, learn industry standards, and see how environmental work translates into real-world outcomes. This is an entry level role (Internship) with potential long-term opportunities.

Requirements

  • High school degree required
  • Must be physically able to work outside or inside, in the elements up to 8 hours a day.
  • Must be able to routinely lift 50-75 pounds (small portable generators, waste drums, coring drills, vacuum pumps and hoses)
  • Computer skills (Microsoft Office), technical writing, organizational skills, time management are essential to the role.
  • OSHA training required.
  • Daily technical and/or report writing, time sheet entry, photologs, and completion of inspection forms and field notes.
  • Microsoft office (Word, Excel, TEAMS, Outlook email) knowledge required and used daily
  • Ability to travel, daily to middle TN sites.
  • 10% overnight travel within state of TN

Nice To Haves

  • College graduates with a degree in Geology, Engineering or Environmental Science or those within 1 year of graduation will be given preference.
  • Use of PID and other electronic meters and probes useful.
  • Prior experience with TDEC Regulations preferred

Responsibilities

  • Conduct groundwater, soil, and air sampling in compliance with regulatory guidelines and project specifications.
  • Support drilling operations, including monitoring and logging soil borings and installing groundwater monitoring wells.
  • Operate and maintain field instrumentation and small tools, such as Photoionization Detectors (PIDs), volt meters, pH probes, and other environmental monitoring equipment.
  • Record field observations, measurements, and sample data accurately and thoroughly.
  • Assist with construction-related activities, such as site preparation, soil excavation, and installation of monitoring systems.
  • Prepare and organize field documentation, including chain-of-custody forms, field logs, and daily activity reports.
  • Utilize Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook) for data entry, report preparation, and communication.
  • Adhere to all company health and safety policies and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • Travel to various field sites as required, sometimes for extended periods.
