About The Position

Environmental Technician II will be responsible for operating a Biomedical waste shredding and deactivation system to ensure the treatment and disposal of medical waste. Technicians will be responsible for loading waste-filled containers into shredder/deactivation system. Operators are responsible for performing tasks associated with handling and transporting waste while making safety and compliance their top priority. These team members work successfully with fellow employees & others to collect waste and deliver it to appropriate and client approved waste facilities and receptacles. This position requires completion of duties year-round in all weather conditions where it is safe to conduct business.

Requirements

  • Ability to operate a forklift
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Clean Motor Vehicle Record
  • Ability to communicate effectively with teammates
  • Ability to read, write, and follow verbal/written instructions in English
  • Must be able to understand one’s own physical limitations to the extent necessary to perform the necessary functions and tasks of the job
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move or push up to 75 pounds
  • Frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals
  • Risk of electrical shock and vibration
  • Occasional exposure to wet and/or humid conditions and outside weather conditions
  • The noise level in the work environment is frequently loud
  • Must be able to work under pressure and time deadlines during peak periods

Responsibilities

  • Operating a Biomedical waste shredding and deactivation system
  • Loading waste-filled containers into shredder/deactivation system
  • Performing tasks associated with handling and transporting waste
  • Collecting waste and delivering it to appropriate and client approved waste facilities and receptacles
  • Completing duties year-round in all weather conditions
  • Collecting bio- and pharmaceutical waste from various areas of a large pharmaceutical facility
  • Preparing waste collection areas, ensuring that manufacturing areas have all necessary waste-collection supplies
  • Operating shredding equipment and managing waste streams
  • Cleaning and drying containers containing biowaste materials
  • Ensuring all bio and pharmaceutical waste is contained and/or cleaned up throughout waste collection cycle
  • Delivering all waste material to appropriate and client-approved waste facilities
  • Maintaining waste collection schedule and meeting agreed performance metrics
  • Maintaining waste collection documentation manually and digitally as required
  • Assisting other departments as needed
  • Adhering to Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality (HSEQ) policies and procedures
  • Following safety protocols, maintaining environmental responsibility, and upholding quality standards
  • Actively participating in HSEQ training and reporting any potential hazards or compliance concerns
