The Environmental Services (EVS) department at Orlando Regional Medical Center (ORMC) is integral to our mission of delivering exceptional patient care in one of the state’s most dynamic healthcare environments. As the only Level I Trauma Center in the state of Florida, ORMC operates at the highest level of clinical intensity—requiring unmatched precision, responsiveness, and collaboration from every department. Our EVS team is at the forefront of maintaining a clean, safe, and healing environment, with a strong focus on infection prevention, regulatory compliance, and service excellence. The department supports 24/7 hospital operations in a high-acuity, fast-paced setting, ensuring that every space reflects the highest standards of care. Position Summary: The Environmental Services Technician level I is responsible for executing the daily duties required to establish and maintain a safe, clean, healing environment. Responsible for ensuring daily room cleaning and timely room turnaround times related to patient throughput within the basic principles of environmental hygiene and infection prevention. The Environmental Services Technician, in accordance with organizational standards of quality, is an essential contributor to cleaning, disinfection, infection prevention, and customer experience.

Requirements

  • Communicates, reads, and writes in standard English, as this is the main business language.

Responsibilities

  • Responds to common inquiries or complaints from customers, using appropriate designated engagement techniques.
  • Cleans and disinfects patient rooms and ancillary areas, to include, but not limited to, bathrooms, public areas, corridors, medication storage rooms as directed and any other areas that may require attention using designated and appropriate chemicals and cleaning procedures.
  • Accesses and uses all department related technology systems, such as but not limited to, the Bed Management systems, while demonstrating good working knowledge.
  • Replenishes supplies as needed, removes bio-medical waste, trash, and soiled linen as required daily and changes cubicle/window curtains as needed.
  • Completes patient room and bathroom cleaning daily to accommodate discharges/admissions and overall cleanliness standards, utilizing the approved procedures for patient room cleaning, to include Bed Management systems where applicable.
  • Performs duties while demonstrating working knowledge of health care cleaning and disinfecting principles and requirements, proper and safe chemical use, equipment handling, and labor-saving products for all items within the healthcare environment assigned for servicing.
  • Adheres to all organization safety, risk management, and infection control guidelines and standards while promoting a culture of safety.
  • Operates UV disinfection machine as needed.
  • Actively participates in departmental performance improvement initiatives, including but not limited to initiatives to improve customer experience and cleanliness metrics.
  • Follows all infection prevention practices including proper cleaning and disinfection protocols and processes, hand hygiene, standard and isolation precautions, as well as proper donning and doffing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Recognizes and adheres to patient privacy requirements (HIPAA).
  • Reports unsafe situations and turnsin Engineering Service Requestsforrepair.
