Under minimal supervision and oversight, the Environmental Technician is responsible for the performance of environmental inspections, data management, and reporting requirements to comply with environmental compliance programs, permit requirements, and corporate environmental policies, standards, procedures and strategic environmental goals within their assigned region, plant and project scope. The Environmental Technician will provide environmental compliance field support during and after construction for a variety of construction project types. Responsibilities include performance of inspections, collection of data, and the development of reports to demonstrate compliance with applicable requirements at multiple AEP assets within the assigned region within regulatory time frames. In collaboration with environmental support staff, the Environmental Technician will advise and train construction field personnel on applicable environmental regulations and permit requirements. The Environmental Technician is also responsible for informing appropriate AEP staff of issues identified during inspections or field observations that must be addressed through internal business processes. The Environmental Technician should have a working knowledge of some of the following environmental programs: Coal Combustion Residual Surface Impoundments and Landfills, NPDES Construction Stormwater Permits, State & Local Permits for Erosion & Sediment Control, Floodplain Permits, Wetland Delineation Protocols, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Permit Programs, including Section 10, Section 404 and Section 408, State Section 401 Programs and Permit Requirements, Threatened & Endangered Species, Cultural Resources, Aboveground and underground storage tanks, Transportation of hazardous materials, Solid and hazardous waste management, Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures, Wastewater, storm water, groundwater, and drinking water sampling, reporting and control, Oil and chemical spill response and management, Air emissions monitoring, control and reporting, Asbestos and PCB management, Pollution prevention, Environmental site assessments, and Emergency planning, and community right-to-know.
