About The Position

As an Environmental Services Technician, you will keep patient rooms and all areas of the hospital clean and sanitized, protecting everyone from potential illness or injury due to infectious diseases or other hazards. You will perform routine cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, or dusting, and use specialized equipment and techniques to further sanitize the facility. This role requires learning and adhering to proper disposal techniques for biohazard materials, including bodily fluids or sharp objects. You may also refill soap dispensers, paper towel dispensers, and other supplies, as well as deliver clean linens. To be successful in this role, you are thorough and committed to safety. You are the most important component contributing to the safety and comfort of our patients, visitors, and staff. A well-maintained facility with compassionate staff brings comfort and peace of mind to patients, their loved ones, and all who serve here.

Responsibilities

  • Completing as assigned, daily occupied and discharge/transfer cleaning and disinfection of patient care areas, equipment, and other common areas.
  • Performing duties while demonstrating a working knowledge of the health care cleaning and disinfecting principles and requirements.
  • Displaying safe chemical use and equipment handling for all items within the healthcare environment.
  • Adhering to all organization safety, risk management and infection control guidelines and standards while promoting a culture of safety.
  • Actively participating in departmental performance improvement initiatives, including but not limited to initiatives to improve patient experience and cleanliness metrics.
  • Maintaining cleaning cart(s), supplies, and equipment, as outlined in the Standard Work cart set up.
  • Removing waste and transporting to the appropriate disposal area while identifying proper waste stream handling (i.e. regulated medical, recycle, solid, and hazardous) in accordance with established procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Following all infection prevention practices, including but not limited to: proper cleaning and disinfection protocols, hand hygiene, standard and isolation precautions, proper donning and doffing of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Recognizing and adhering to patient privacy requirements (HIPAA).
  • Practicing critical thinking skills.
  • Demonstrating personal accountability.
  • Identifying and utilizing appropriate resources to ensure identified problems or concerns are followed through and resolved.
  • Demonstrating knowledge of facility safety requirements.
  • Demonstrating the ability to operate and properly maintain all EVS tools and equipment needed to clean and disinfect the environment.
  • May be asked to perform tasks according to the various facility needs, including but not limited to: conference room set ups, cleaning of stairwells and elevators, and hanging of cubicle curtains.
  • May be asked to mentor new Environmental Services Tech I employees.
  • Ability to collaborate with others as we are a part of the patient care team.
