About The Position

The Environmental Services Tech II is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the hospital environment. This role involves a variety of tasks including floor care, waste management, and ensuring customer satisfaction. The position requires the ability to operate cleaning equipment, handle hazardous materials safely, and cross-train in other housekeeping duties as needed to support hospital operations during peak periods or staffing shortages.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent work experience
  • 1-2 years experience with prior housekeeping experience preferred
  • Basic computer skills preferred
  • Able to operate small electrical equipment i.e., vacuum cleaners
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English as related to the performance of essential job activities (including reading and comprehending chemical labels and other safety materials)
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance.
  • For lifts over 35 pounds, lifting equipment is expected to be used or lift with at least one other associate when available.
  • Unique lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case by case basis.

Responsibilities

  • Scrub, strip, polish, and refinish floors using appropriate equipment and supplies.
  • Operate various types of cleaning equipment, including mechanical and electrical devices such as ringers, vacuums, electric floor machines, and sweepers.
  • Analyze floor or carpet conditions and determine proper cleaning techniques following department processes.
  • Maintain hard surface floors and carpets following department processes.
  • Ensure timely and satisfactory completion of all job assignments.
  • Exercise initiative by seeking additional tasks when time permits.
  • Use and maintain equipment, keeping it clean and in good repair.
  • Keep work area in an orderly, clean, and safe condition.
  • Dispose of waste in a timely manner to assure hospital cleanliness.
  • Collect hazardous and medical waste according to hospital processes/DOT/RSPA training.
  • Replace and transport sharps containers to the waste staging area.
  • Collect soiled linen.
  • Remove and dispose of rubbish from selected areas, following safety guidelines.
  • Separate regular and recycle trash according to procedure.
  • Operate waste compactors safely and efficiently.
  • Clean and/or sanitize all garbage/waste disposal containers.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to satisfying customer needs and exceeding customer expectations.
  • Display patience and tact when dealing with other hospital personnel.
  • Present the department in a positive manner to all contacts.
  • Maintain a courteous and pleasant attitude to patients, families, and other contacts.
  • Maintain confidential patient and departmental information.
  • Utilize AIDET with both internal and external customers.
  • Demonstrate the ability to identify and resolve interpersonal conflicts constructively when dealing with fellow associates.
  • Demonstrate a positive, supportive attitude to patient families and other personnel in emergency and non-emergency situations.
  • Relocate furniture, equipment, etc., as requested.
  • Arrange furniture for meetings, workshops, and community affairs according to specifications.
  • Complete terminal cleans as needed.
  • Cross-train on discharge room cleans and OR cleaning to accommodate hospital needs.
  • Complete discharge room cleans following hospital processes.
  • Complete OR cleaning following hospital processes.
  • Attend all mandatory departmental and hospital meetings and in-services.
  • Complete annual CBTs required.
  • Follow written department goals and objectives, and review annually with Manager.
  • Seek education and learning experiences in areas of identified growth needs.
  • Maintain proper attendance requirements outlined in the Hospital Policy and Procedure Manual.
  • Plan for special days off in advance and submit written requests for time off.
  • Request PTO time in accordance with departmental policy.
  • Provide adequate notice to department management for absences and call two hours prior to the beginning of shift if unable to work.
