About The Position

Requirements

  • 5 yrs. trg. or 5 yrs. exp. in position involving engineering or chemistry, physics, biology &/or other comparable science field &/or mathematics &/or history &/or archaeology (i.e., latter two subject areas pertain only to Department of Transportation) evaluating & approving complex engineering design plans, conducting most sensitive environmental surveillance activities &/or environmental pollution compliance monitoring inspections, investigating complex public health &/or environmental pollution problems, initiating complex enforcement actions, or assisting in planning, developing & maintaining specific environmental projects & programs AND 6 mos. trg. or 6 mos. exp. as lead worker.
  • Note\: Training &/or experience must correspond to environmental area to be assigned.
  • Positions in Environmental Protection Agency's solid waste program, excluding those in solid waste planning unit, also require valid Ohio certificate of registration as sanitarian or valid Ohio certificate as sanitarian-in-training.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, coordinate & implement environmental programs (e.g. ,water pollution, solid waste, water quality monitoring & assessment, ground water, terrestrial & aquatic ecosystems, water quantity/resource development)
  • Coordinate and implement environmental protection activities with other Divisions in agency & with other governmental agencies to ensure adequate communications & compliance with acceptable program standards
  • Develop statewide guidelines to ensure compliance with agency policies & procedures & state & federal laws & rules
  • Direct special environmental protection projects (e.g., spill prevention & counter-measure control, solid waste management, water quantity/resources management)
  • Supervise environmental specialists &/or other professional/technical personnel
  • Oversee preparation of reports, environmental assessments, complaint investigations & field inspections, plan reviews & recommendations

Benefits

  • Starting hourly pay of $35.68/hr with multiple pay increases over your first 6.5 years of service, with an end salary of $50.75/hr. There may also be cost of living adjustments (COLA) applied.
