About The Position

The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is seeking an energetic, goal-focused, and determined Environmental Supervisor to join the Division of Air Pollution Control (DAPC) at their Northwest District Office (NWDO) in Wood County. This role involves directing, planning, coordinating, and participating in various NWDO DAPC activities, including the preparation of air pollution control permits, inspection of facilities, and research into air pollution control technologies. The supervisor will also be responsible for developing and maintaining the Ohio EPA emission inventory system, implementing permitting programs, and supervising engineering and scientific personnel. Additionally, the role includes directing personnel and providing technical assistance for enforcement actions, as well as testifying in legal proceedings.

Requirements

  • 5 years of training or experience in a position involving engineering or chemistry, physics, biology and/or other comparable science field and/or mathematics and/or history and/or archaeology (latter two subject areas pertain only to Department of Transportation) evaluating & approving complex engineering design plans, conducting most sensitive environmental surveillance activities and/or environmental pollution compliance monitoring inspections, investigating complex public health and/or environmental pollution problems, initiating complex enforcement actions, or assisting in planning, developing & maintaining specific environmental projects and programs.
  • 6 months of training or experience as a lead worker.
  • OR 12 months of experience as an Environmental Specialist 2, 85862.
  • OR equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment.
  • Training and/or experience must correspond to the environmental area to be assigned.
  • Positions in the Environmental Protection Agency's solid waste program, excluding those in the solid waste planning unit, also require a valid Ohio certificate of registration as a sanitarian or a valid Ohio certificate as a sanitarian-in-training.
  • Must undergo a criminal background check.
  • Official educational transcripts are required for post-high school educational accomplishments, coursework or degrees claimed on the application. Applicants will be required to submit an official transcript if they are selected for the position. Current Ohio EPA employees may be required to provide official educational transcripts.

Responsibilities

  • Direct, plan, coordinate, and participate in NWDO DAPC activities, including the preparation of air pollution control permits to install and operate.
  • Inspect institutional, commercial, and industrial facilities.
  • Prepare inspection reports and follow-up correspondence.
  • Research air pollution control technologies.
