About The Position
The Office of Drinking Water is seeking an Environmental Supervisor – Public Water for the Southeast Virginia Field Office, located in Norfolk. This role is crucial for ensuring safe and reliable drinking water for citizens in the Southeast Virginia Field Office service area, which encompasses a mix of rural, suburban, and urban areas. The position involves managing groundwater and consecutive system surveillance and operations programs, interpreting federal and state regulations, providing guidance and assistance to waterworks owners and operators for compliance, training operators, and informing the public about drinking water quality. The role also contributes to the overall administration and management of the field office, joining a team dedicated to protecting public health related to drinking water treatment and delivery.
Requirements
- Working knowledge of biology, microbiology, chemistry, and math
- Working knowledge of technology associated with provision of drinking water
- Ability to use computers for word processing and data management
- Ability to communicate in English in writing, orally, interpersonally, and before groups and public meetings
- Ability to interpret regulations and technical documents
- Ability to effectively supervise others
Nice To Haves
- Experience conducting sanitary surveys or environmental risk assessments.
- Knowledge of SDWA and Virginia Waterworks Regulations.
- Ability to manage a regulatory program.
Responsibilities
- Managing the groundwater and consecutive system surveillance and operations programs in the field office including supervision of Environmental Health Specialists and Environmental Health Technical Specialists.
- Interpreting federal and state regulations applicable to waterworks owners and operators.
- Providing guidance to owners and operators to ensure they achieve compliance with health and safety standards.
- Providing assistance to help waterworks return to compliance in cases where they violate the standards.
- Training operators in the operation and maintenance of waterworks.
- Providing information about drinking water quality to the general public.
- Assisting in the overall administration and management of the field office.
