About The Position

This is a professional supervisory position responsible for supervising, assigning, planning and directing the daily activities of a Pest Eradication and Control (PE&C) Citrus Health Response Program (CHRP) Field Station for the certification and regulation of all commercial citrus within the State of Florida.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and one (1) year of experience in apiculture, environmental protection, regulation, or health; one of the physical or natural sciences; or engineering; or
  • Two (2) years of experience as an Environmental Specialist I or higher with the State of Florida; or
  • Two and a half (2.5) years of experience as described above.
  • Requires possession of a valid Class E driver license.
  • Knowledge of techniques used in inspecting plants or other agricultural products.
  • Knowledge of applicable division, agency, State, and Federal rules and regulations.
  • Skill in using computers, computer software, GIS and Esri databases.
  • Skill in conflict resolution.
  • Ability to detect plant pests.
  • Ability to compile, organize and analyze data and make recommendations.
  • Ability to interpret rules and regulations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others and interact with the public in a professional manner.
  • Ability to motivate, train, and direct staff.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, assign work, and ensure completion.
  • Ability to solve problems and make decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Manages and oversees all aspects of an assigned office (i.e. Administration, Regulatory and Grove survey)
  • Compiles and reviews necessary administrative reports ensuring accuracy and punctuality.
  • Researches and recommends measures to improve productivity.
  • Organizes office workload to maintain high efficiency.
  • Assists and arranges training of new employees.
  • Monitors work performance of subordinates, including periodic written evaluations and discussions; counseling to develop skills and correct deficiencies; recognizing employee accomplishments; and recommending timely disciplinary actions as needed.
  • Approves timesheets and leave requests.
  • Documents recommendations for special pay increases, reclassifications, and disciplinary actions, when appropriate, following consultation with direct supervisor.
  • Efficiently carries out employee selection actions when vacancies are to be filled.
  • Responsible and accountable for managing budget/dollars/resources (staff, vehicles, computers, cell phones, etc.) of any assigned programs in an efficient and accountable manner.
  • Responsible for ensuring that assigned program areas have operational procedures and processes which result in accountability and compliance with division and department policies and procedures.
  • Investigates and resolves problems and complaints that arise in assigned area.
  • Institutes quality control measures to verify procedures are followed.
  • Complies and reviews necessary reports on all activities ensuring accuracy and punctuality.
  • Promotes safety and ensures that all safety regulations and other procedures are followed.
  • Travels outside of assigned work area as needed when requested by the program director.
  • Assists with the development of regulatory functions and directs and implements them in accordance with the CHRP action plan.
  • Assists subordinates with vehicle and office maintenance needs.
  • Conducts and oversees safety training for all vehicles and equipment.
  • Maintains all office and personnel inventories.
  • Attends industry meetings and provide updates on CHRP activities.
  • Performs other related work as directed by program director.
