About The Position

The Environmental Superintendent is responsible for leading environmental field operations and compliance activities for the Homer City Redevelopment Project. This position manages environmental crews responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and inspection of erosion and sediment control Best Management Practices (BMPs), stormwater controls, dust mitigation measures, and other environmental protection systems required by project permits and regulations. The Environmental Superintendent serves as the primary field leader for environmental construction activities, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable permits, environmental regulations, project specifications, and company standards. This individual works closely with project management, craft supervision, subcontractors, regulatory agencies, consultants, and client representatives to support successful project execution.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience leading environmental field operations on large industrial, infrastructure, construction, power, renewable energy, or civil projects.
  • Strong working knowledge of erosion and sediment controls, stormwater management practices, and environmental compliance requirements.
  • Experience supervising field crews responsible for BMP installation, maintenance, repairs, and inspections.
  • Ability to read and interpret permit drawings, environmental plans, specifications, and regulatory requirements.
  • Proven leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience coordinating with multiple stakeholders, including construction personnel, regulators, consultants, and clients.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams), electronic inspection platforms, report preparation, and environmental tracking systems.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic construction environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Pennsylvania Chapter 102 Erosion and Sediment Control permitting and NPDES Construction Stormwater permits.
  • Experience conducting environmental inspections on large-scale construction projects.
  • Certified Erosion, Sediment, and Stormwater Inspector (CESSWI) or similar certification preferred.
  • Experience using GIS, environmental databases, or digital compliance management systems.
  • Knowledge of environmental requirements is associated with DOE-funded or large industrial redevelopment projects.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, supervise, and develop environmental field crews performing daily environmental compliance activities.
  • Plan and direct the installation, maintenance, repair, and replacement of erosion and sediment control BMPs.
  • Conduct routine environmental inspections and oversee corrective actions to maintain compliance with permits and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate environmental construction activities with project management, engineering, field operations, and subcontractors.
  • Ensure compliance with Chapter 102 permits, NPDES requirements, environmental commitments, and project-specific environmental plans.
  • Monitor site conditions, identify environmental risks, and implement corrective measures to prevent violations and environmental incidents.
  • Manage environmental work schedules, labor forecasts, equipment needs, and material inventories.
  • Review and maintain inspection reports, corrective action logs, environmental documentation, and compliance records.
  • Support regulatory inspections and interface with environmental consultants, clients, and regulatory agencies as needed.
  • Deliver environmental training, toolbox talks, and mentoring to craft personnel and field supervision.
  • Track environmental performance metrics and support continuous improvement initiatives.
