About The Position

Kleinfelder's Environmental team is seeking an Environmental Stormwater Inspector / Entry-Level Wetland Scientist. This role involves inspecting Oil & Gas constructed projects for compliance with Best Management Practices for Erosion & Sediment Control and stream & wetland crossings. Responsibilities include data collection and management using electronic devices, producing daily field reports, and potentially field sampling, analysis, and technical field support. The position also supports stream and wetland delineations under supervision, field team participation, permitting and compliance activities, and developing environmental technical documents and permit applications, primarily in the energy sector. The work may involve a combination of office and field work.

Requirements

  • BS in an Environmental, Biological, or Ecological Science.
  • 0-2 years of relevant wetland delineation experience.
  • Compliance with site safety is required.
  • Excellent writing capabilities and the ability to analyze and interpret permitting documents and regulations.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills required.
  • Ability to build relationships, work with a team and communicate with contractors and clients.
  • Must be able to work independently, show strong problem-solving capabilities and a willingness to use professional judgment.
  • Willing to work primarily in West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Ohio with potential assignments in other states (requiring overnight stay).
  • Work in all types of weather.
  • Ability to work flexible work schedules and availability to meet priority deadlines outside of normal working hours.
  • Ability to travel (mostly PA, WV, and OH) with short notice (fieldwork consists of 90% of the role).
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Following an offer, candidates will be required to satisfactorily complete employment reference checks, verification of professional licensure and/or educational credentials, a motor vehicle report (MVR), and a comprehensive background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with oil and gas pipelines, compressor stations and well-pad construction is preferred.
  • Coursework and/or experience with conducting stream and wetland delineations in accordance with USACE and state protocols, plant identification, and soils identification.
  • Able to work with senior staff to help prepare permit documents, environmental reports, correspondence documents, calculations, and conduct analyses.
  • Background experience using GPS devices and ArcGIS is desired.
  • Possess excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills with strong problem-solving abilities and analytical skills.
  • Ability to conduct work year-round in adverse climate and field conditions.

Responsibilities
