About The Position

Triumvirate Environmental is hiring an Environmental Specialist for its Lab & Onsite Support Services team. The role supports clients at an on-site location in Groton, Connecticut, by managing hazardous-waste programs and projects in accordance with state and federal regulations. The position reports to the Operations Manager and is safety-sensitive, involving frequent handling of hazardous chemicals and biological waste and the use of personal protective equipment. The Environmental Specialist prepares chemical and biological waste for shipment and disposal, handles waste containers, conducts inspections and occasional EHS audits, and supports spill response and regulatory compliance. The position may include optional rotating on-call participation with the Emergency Response team. The role requires flexible weekday hours, regular overtime, and the ability to report to the Newington office within one hour during emergency-response rotating shifts. The stated pay range is $24–$25 USD. Actual starting base pay may vary based on education, experience, skills, location, and budget.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree, equivalent experience in the hazardous-waste industry, or relevant military experience.
Ability to work both as a team member and independently.
Strong verbal and written communication skills for professional interactions with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders.
Ability to analyze complex issues, develop solutions, and implement strategies to achieve positive outcomes.
Ability to build strong, positive relationships with clients and colleagues.
Ability to work overtime regularly.
Willingness to work flexible hours Monday through Friday.
Ability to complete a two- to three-year professional advancement program in hazardous-waste management.
Ability to frequently handle hazardous chemicals and biological waste and put on and take off personal protective equipment.
Ability to report to the Newington office within one hour during Emergency Response rotating shifts.
Valid U.S. driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Willingness to consent to motor vehicle record screening, criminal background check, pre-employment physical, and drug screening, including THC; participation in random drug screening, including THC, is required upon employment.
Eligibility to work in the United States without future sponsorship.
Willingness to obtain a CDL Class C and hazmat endorsement.
Ability to lift 60 pounds regularly.

Nice To Haves

Prior relevant industry experience.
Prior successful experience in a customer service role.
Active HAZWOPER 24- or 40-hour certification.
Willingness to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).

Responsibilities

Develop an understanding of OSHA regulations and Triumvirate’s health and safety practices.
Prepare chemical and biological waste for shipment and disposal, including creating required federal and state waste documents and managing material paperwork.
Safely handle hazardous-waste containers at client sites and load and unload waste from vehicles.
Conduct safety equipment and hazardous-waste inspections.
Occasionally perform and document Environmental Health and Safety audits for clients.
Provide outstanding client support and innovative solutions.
Develop state and federal regulatory expertise to help meet client compliance needs, including RCRA, DOT, and OSHA requirements.
Conduct spill-response measures, including spill assessment and cleanup.
Optionally participate in rotating on-call responsibilities as part of the Emergency Response team.
