About The Position

R+L Carriers has an immediate opening for an Environmental Specialist. We are looking for someone who can support Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, and Missouri, but we would also be open to coverage in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Nevada, and Utah. The Environmental Specialist will support the implementation and ongoing management of environmental compliance and permitting obligations for facilities within an assigned region. Responsibilities may include compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations, including but not limited to the Clean Water Act (SPCC, Industrial Stormwater, Construction Stormwater), Clean Air Act, Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA), aboveground and underground storage tank regulations, and other applicable regulatory programs.

Requirements

  • Support Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, and Missouri, but would also be open to coverage in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Nevada, and Utah.
  • Support the implementation and ongoing management of environmental compliance and permitting obligations for facilities within an assigned region.
  • Compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations, including but not limited to the Clean Water Act (SPCC, Industrial Stormwater, Construction Stormwater), Clean Air Act, Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA), aboveground and underground storage tank regulations, and other applicable regulatory programs.

Responsibilities

  • Review environmental compliance documentation, identify and track corrective actions, participate in corrective action resolution, prepare required regulatory reports, and ensure proper record retention.
  • Provide technical and regulatory expertise to support effective problem-solving, including the development, implementation, and maintenance of environmental plans and permits (including SPCC and SWPPP), and continuously evaluate regulatory applicability as facility operations or regulations change.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with site and operational personnel to drive continuous compliance improvements and identify and implement process enhancements at facility locations.
  • Support departmental objectives related to enhanced compliance tracking systems, electronic data reporting, frequent interaction with operational and site personnel, and the development of environmental policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Conduct internal environmental audits and support regulatory agency inspections, including assisting with inspection responses, findings, and corrective action follow-up.
  • Perform SPCC and stormwater inspections, coordinate required training, manage plan updates and amendments, and support spill response and stormwater compliance activities as needed.
  • Travel to assigned Service Centers within the designated region as required to support compliance activities, audits, inspections, and training at least once per calendar year.
